Man pushed teen into car
Police have arrested a 55-year-old man after a member of the public saw a boy being pushed into a car against his will in Blenheim today.
Constable Andrew Holdaway, of Blenheim, said police were called to Colemans Rd, Springlands, about 7.50am.
A member of the public had reported seeing a man pull up in a car next to the boy and push him into the car.
The boy, who was riding a bicycle at the time, is believed to be in his early teens. The man put the bike in the car and drove away.
Police traced the car registration which lead them to a house in the Springlands area. The house belonged to the boy's mother, who was at home with her son.
He was visibly upset, Mr Holdaway said.
The man who had taken him was also at the house and was a family friend, he said.
Police were told the boy had run away from home and the man had gone to bring him back.
The man was charged with common assault and is to appear in the Blenheim District Court, Mr Holdaway said.
Police were grateful to the member of the public who had phoned 111 immediately, enabling police to sort the matter out quickly, he said.
