The staff and children of Linkwater School are eagerly awaiting the chance to show off "their" rock band, Little Oceans at their fun day on Sunday.
Band members Sam and Josh Edmonds and Matt Johnson are all former pupils of the school, and have agreed to come and play at the fundraiser. The band have enjoyed some great successes in the past two years, securing a world-wide release deal for their first album in 2011.
Two songs were awarded New Zealand on Air grants worth $20,000 and they have been receiving extensive New Zealand radio play for two singles. They are regarded as one of the finest young acts to come out of the province.
However, the school will not be relying on the pull of the band alone and have arranged a day of family fun as well as an art auction on Saturday night.
With just 36 pupils the school relies on the goodwill of those attending to help raise funds for its running costs.
With a bouncy castles, archery, craft, silent auction goods, family races, white elephant bargains, spring planting treasures, cafe and BBQ food and garlic mussels, there is bound to be something for everyone.
Sam, Josh and Matt will play during lunchtime and the school is hoping that their keen fan base will come along and boost the numbers.
Also playing will be a friend of the band, Elisha Hobbs, who often opens as their support act. Pupils from the school will also play as part of the Linkwater Ukulele Orchestra.
All proceeds from the fun day and art auction will go towards teaching support, the lease of laptops and a new storage shed.
