A man was flown to Nelson Hospital with multiple injuries after a ''freak'' accident near Seddon yesterday afternoon.
A Life Flight crewman Dave Greenberg said the man was injured while cutting down a tree just after noon.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called from Wellington, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic on board, to a property east of Seddon.
The Seddon Fire Brigade had also been called out and was treating a man in his 70s injured when he was flung several metres into the air while cutting down a tree, Mr Greenberg said.
"Apparently the tree snapped and the trunk caught the man, flinging him about 3 metres into the air," he said.
"He was quite lucky that he did not follow the tree, which fell approximately 10 metres down a bank".
The man suffered multiple injuries, although they were not life threatening, he said.
The man was from the Nelson area and was flown to the Nelson Hospital emergency department in a stable condition.
