Crash victim in hospital
A man who crashed his ute on State Highway 6 in Marlborough on Friday night is in the intensive care unit at Wellington Hospital.
A hospital spokesman said yesterday the man was in a stable condition.
A police spokeswoman said the man was in his early 60s. He was from Australia and was on holiday in New Zealand when the accident happened about 11.20pm on SH6 at Kaituna, the spokeswoman said.
He had serious injuries including a suspected broken back and neck and swelling about the brain, she said.
Nelson Marlborough rescue helicopter crewman Hamish Pirie said the man appeared to have lost control of the vehicle as he was coming off the Wairau River Bridge.
