Efficient investment in road maintenance and movement of freight on fewer trucks are among the New Zealand Transport Agency's core aims for Marlborough and the rest of the country.
In a presentation to the Marlborough District Council's Regional Transport Committee meeting on Friday, NZTA regional director Jenny Chetwynd said the focus for investment was on regional needs.
Under the Land Transport Management Act, NZTA funding went towards areas with the biggest need, Ms Chetwynd said. "It's an outcome-based perspective, not a population-based perspective. We invest in projects that are at the right time for the right reasons."
The agency funds 46 per cent of the road maintenance budget in Marlborough.
