A 23-year-old Italian man was arrested on Monday for shoplifting at The Warehouse in Blenheim.

Constable Andrew Holdaway said the man was caught by staff trying to take a pair of sunglasses. He was released with a pre-charge warning.

Police also arrested a 53-year-old woman for shoplifting on Monday.

The woman is to appear in the Blenheim District Court on January 7.

Unlawful deposit

A man had to clean up a mess he made after he was spotted by police defecating behind a Blenheim building.

Constable Andrew Holdaway, of Blenheim, said the man did his business behind a Main St property about 11.30pm on Monday.

After a discussion with police, he decided to clean the mess up, Mr Holdaway said.

Police warned the man and released him.

Wine, food stolen

A Blenheim restaurant was burgled between Saturday and Monday, police say.

Constable Andrew Holdaway said a locked chiller at the Main St restaurant was broken into. Bottles of wine and food were stolen, Mr Holdaway said.

Police were reviewing security camera footage to identify the offenders.
