Views aired on secondary schooling
Parents, staff and community members have aired their views on the future of secondary schooling in Blenheim in 37 submissions, says Have Your Say facilitator Janet Kelly.
The Ministry of Education has asked the community what it wants for the future of secondary schooling in Blenheim before it funds the rebuild of Marlborough Boys' College and Marlborough Girls' College, which have earthquake-risk and leaky buildings. A public meeting was held in Blenheim at the beginning of the month.
Mrs Kelly said submitters aired a range of views; some supported the status quo, others called for Bohally Intermediate School and Marlborough Boys' College to swap sites, while one said that Marlborough Girls' College students should attend the boys' college.
People still had time to make a submission.
Another public meeting will be held in the school hall at Marlborough Girls' College from 7pm-9pm on January 20. The meeting will again be attended by board of trustees members from both colleges and a Ministry of Education representative.
The due date for submissions had been extended to February 3.
Written submissions can be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org or posted to: Janet Kelly, 31 Courtney Street, Motueka 7120.
