An electrical fault caused a fire in a carport on a rural property in New Renwick Rd in the Burleigh area of Blenheim yesterday morning.
Deputy fire officer Dion Partridge said the property owners noticed smoke coming from the carport. They removed a vehicle and called the Fire Service.
Two fire engines and a rural tanker arrived about 10am, Mr Partridge said. They had the fire under control and checks completed in 40 minutes.
"The people were pretty fortunate this happened during the day."
Firefighters were also sent to a false alarm in Blenheim and another at Woodbourne yesterday, Mr Partridge said.
