Another store in Marlborough has been the target of a robbery.

One-off pieces of New Zealand jade were stolen from Seaside Gems, in Picton on Sunday.

Owner Alex Leitch said they hoped police would find the person responsible.

"Our jewellery is locked up to keep the one-of-a-kind pieces safe, but still the thieves managed to get to some of our pieces," he said.

Besides the monetary value of the pieces, the fact that the pieces that had been taken were unique upset Mr Leitch.

Police are asking the public for help to identify a man suspected to be involved in the robbery.

Constable Matt Cotching said that since releasing images on Facebook, a young woman had been cleared of involvement.

"There has been no nominations for the male who was seen entering the store at 10.20am on Sunday," he said.

The suspect managed to open the locked cabinet and take the jade jewellery, Mr Cotching said.

Anyone who recognises the man in the photograph is asked to phone Picton police on 03 520 3120.

The robbery happened about an hour before the attempted robbery of the Showgrounds Store in Maxwell Rd, Blenheim. A large Polynesian man carrying a hammer demanded money from store owner Henry Huang, who fled the store unharmed.
