A man was flown to hospital by helicopter after falling off a moped in Robin Hood Bay shortly before midnight on New Year's Eve.
The Nelson Marlborough rescue helicopter flew to the bay near Port Underwood at 11.46pm, where a 24-year-old Blenheim man had "critical spinal injuries" after falling off the moped.
A St John Ambulance crew had also been called to the accident.
Helicopter crew said the man was assessed at the scene by the helicopter's onboard intensive care paramedic before he was flown to Wairau Hospital, in Blenheim, for further assessment.
A hospital duty manager said yesterday the man had been transferred to Christchurch Hospital in a stable condition.
No further details on the man or the accident were available from emergency services yesterday.
Earlier on Tuesday night, the Nelson Marlborough rescue helicopter flew a woman in her 50s from Bulwer, in the outer Pelorus Sound, to Nelson Hospital because of a medical emergency. The crew was called out about 9.20pm.
