Wynter Jones is the first baby born to be born at Wairau Hospital, in Blenheim, for 2014.
Mum Natasha Jones was very proud and happy to have her home.
Wynter was born at 10.40pm on January 1, weighing 3.1kg (6lb 14oz).
"My husband chose my son's name so I chose her name, Wynter pronounced ‘winter'."
"I was browsing baby name websites and spotted it and liked it right away," she said.
Wynter's two-year-old brother William just wanted to hold her and hug her, she said.
"He keeps wanting to share everything with her and shows her his toys - it's really sweet," she said.
Dad Anthony Jones was relieved to have his whole family safely at home yesterday.
"It was a New Year to remember as Natasha started having contractions.
"Wynter looks just like her mother. She has all her features and hair - she's tiny and beautiful," he said.
The family look forward to introducing her to the rest of their family, including her great great grandmother living in Blenheim.
