A lightning strike on a power line between Blenheim and Rai Valley caused a minor power outage yesterday afternoon.
Marlborough Lines operations manager Brian Tapp said the strike on a 33,000-volt line left a few customers in Canvastown, Rai Valley, Pelorus Bridge, and out to French Pass without power for a matter of seconds.
Other calls centred around the Onamalutu, Spring Creek and Grovetown areas, but none of them had proved to be serious, Mr Tapp said.
"No major power lines have gone faulty."
Individual farms could be left without power if a transformer was hit by lightning, but Marlborough Lines had people on the ground and staff taking calls, Mr Tapp said.
