Fire closes road and rail
State Highway 1 at Seddon is now open after a blaze near the railway tracks caused traffic to back up more than a kilometre.
The fire started near the south side of the Seddon overbridge just after 11am today.
Firefighters are still at the scene, working off the road to dampen down hot spots and make sure the fire didn't reignite.
Trains had been stopped because of the fire's close proximity to the tracks but were now running again.
A man at the scene said traffic had been backed up more than 1km.
Regional highway patrol team leader Sergeant Barrie Greenall said the fire had spread about seven metres up the bank.
Firefighters had the fire under control and were hosing water across the road to stop it from spreading, he said.
The road was closed for a short time but the north-bound lane had been re-opened.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
