Woman jailed for theft, burglary
A woman who attempted to steal a television from The Warehouse in Blenheim last week has been sentenced to eight months in prison.
Tania Catherine Jury, 35, appeared in the Blenheim District Court on Monday, charged with burglary, wilful trespass, theft, breaching her community work and breaching her release conditions.
The Wakamarina woman went to Blenheim store, from which she was trespassed, last Wednesday and attempted to leave the shop with a 32-inch TV she had not paid for.
Judge Richard Russell said Jury had the TV, worth $499.95, in a trolley, She was stopped in the car park by security staff.
The charge of theft related to a matter in Hawke's Bay in October last year, when Jury stole $100 worth of groceries from Countdown in Hastings.
Judge Russell sentenced her to eight months in prison on the burglary charge and two months each on the charges of theft, wilful trespass, breaching community work and breaching release conditions.
The sentences were to be served concurrently. She was also ordered to pay $100 in reparations for the groceries and would have post-release conditions for six months when she was released.
