Festival organisers on countdown
The "fab foods" and "marvellous wines" people have come to expect of the Marlborough Wine and Food Festival will again take centrestage at this year's 30th anniversary event.
Wine Marlborough events manager Meredith Elley said organisers were busy with last-minute preparations for the February 8 event, to be held again at Brancott Estate near Blenheim.
Stalls will be set up by 56 Marlborough wineries and the culinary pavilion will include a team of top Australian chefs. They will hold a panel discussion on "what's hot and what's not" in the Australian cooking scene, Ms Elley said.
Marlborough Rotary, whose members have been involved with the festival since its inception, would look after public marshalling, while Marlborough scouts would be there on Sunday for the big clean-up.
Each group receives a financial offering from Wine Marlborough for its work, Ms Elley said.
"We are keen to give back to the community, so it's a win-win."
Wine Marlborough was the industry body that championed Marlborough wine and the annual Wine and Food Festival was an obvious opportunity to stretch that promotion.
"Where else can you expose 7000 consumers to Marlborough wine in one day?"
