Marlborough is experiencing a shortage in rental properties.
Statistics from Trade Me show that between October and December 2013 the number of rental listings in Marlborough dropped by 18 per cent.
Meanwhile, inquiries for rental properties have risen 28 per cent.
Harcourts property manager Tom Rutherford said that the seasonal fluctuation in the rental market was not surprising for Marlborough.
"December through to February are always our busiest months, but we have an abnormal restricted amount of properties available, especially for families," he said.
They had a waiting list for bigger family homes, and although there were smaller properties available, it was not enough, Mr Rutherford said.
