Blinds seller never heard of failed firm
The owner of one of Marlborough's biggest blinds sellers says she had never heard of the outdoor living company that ripped off at least 13 people in Marlborough.
Peter Mark Floor Pride 2008 co-owner Fiona Mark said it was important to have a product guarantee from a reputable outlet.
At least 13 Marlborough people paid thousands of dollars in deposits to Comfy Industries Limited at the Marlborough Home and Garden Show last year. The company was liquidated in December, leaving customers without the blinds and shutters they ordered and no refund.
Customers of Comfy Industries Ltd ordered their blinds in July and waited months to hear from the business. One woman was told in November the blinds she had ordered would be installed before Christmas.
Ms Mark said it should take between two and four weeks for blinds to be installed.
The High St business offered follow-ups after the product had been installed. Customers looking to buy blinds and shutters needed to check the company was legitimate, she said.
"Make sure they're a well known company and that they've been around a while."
It was also important to go through a reputable outlet in their own town to not only support local business, but to ensure post-installation service would be available.
Customers of Comfy Industries Limited were charged a 50 per cent deposit to be paid on the day, but that wasn't unusual, Ms Mark said.
Peter Mark Floor Pride customers paid a deposit after the quote had been confirmed.
