Another new business is opening in Picton - this time a cafe promising fresh, but affordable food and good coffee.

The focus of the cafe will be on providing residents with reasonably priced, fresh food, Red Salt Cafe, Bar & Restaurant owner Matthew Allan said.

"My wife, Jenni, and I feel people should be able to get quality food without paying a fortune for it," he said.

The cafe will serve a special range of CPR coffee called Marvel - Big Bang.

"We will focus on quality coffee and anyone that enjoys a good coffee has too come and try the Big Bang coffee," he said.

Mr Allan, who is head chef at the Marlborough Convention Centre, has picked his front of house and kitchen staff to uphold hospitality industry standards.

"Our food will be freshly prepared on site as far as possible and not kept warm in bain maries or display cases," he said.

The cafe will be open in the Mariners Mall from Saturday February 1.

The cafe is awaiting final approval for a full liquor licence that includes evening service. As soon as that is approved hopes to be open for dinner as well.
