Woman, boy in accident
A pregnant woman who had been driving a 4WD towing a boat was taken to hospital after crashing down a bank in Marlborough yesterday.
The 30-year-old Christchurch woman and a 13-year-old boy were in the vehicle when the accident happened about 2.30pm on Ure Rd, south of Ward.
Marlborough highway patrol team leader Sergeant Barrie Greenall said the woman was towing a boat on a trailer when she tried to overtake a car. She lost control of the vehicle when the trailer started to wobble and veered off the road and down a bank about three to four metres.
The woman was on a restricted licence, Mr Greenall said.
Both she and the boy, a family member, were not injured, but the woman was taken to Wairau Hospital to be checked. They were wearing seatbelts.
"When things go wrong, if you're wearing a seatbelt, you stand a much better chance at walking away," he said.
