A Picton petrol station has gone bust after 14 years in business.

Challenge Picton owners Andrew and Jacqueline Swanson shut up shop for the last time on Friday. Their company, Swanmonk Limited, was placed into liquidation the followings day.

Liquidator Geoff Falloon, of BizRescue in Nelson, was appointed to find a new owner.

There had been no interest in the business so far, he said.

The service station had "sorry no fuel" signs on the pumps when the Express visited yesterday morning, however, Mr Falloon said he planned to reopen the station while he tried to sell it.

"It is in liquidation but it is still trading. We will trade on, to maximise value."

The station's assets were being valued and a first report would be out this week on the Companies Office register, Mr Falloon said.

On Friday, a post on the Challenge Picton Facebook page thanked customers.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal customers who have supported us for the past 14 years. As of today Challenge Picton has officially closed," the post read.

Andrew and Jacqueline Swanson were no longer involved with Challenge Picton and had moved their mechanical workshop to new premises on Dublin St, it added.

They declined to comment when contacted by the Express yesterday.
