Speed is thought to be a factor in truck crash near Seddon yesterday, resulting in multiple fatalities of the cattle it was carrying.
Constable Andrew Holdaway, of Blenheim, said the accident occurred about 12.30am on Waitangi Day, on State Highway One near Blind River Loop Rd.
The truck was carrying about 40 cattle as it headed from Blenheim to Christchurch, but it was not known exactly how many died in the crash.
Investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the crash, Mr Holdaway said.
