A 4WD vehicle crashed and flipped upside down near Blenheim this morning, police say.
Sergeant Jason Munro, of Blenheim, said a 19-year-old woman was driving the Mitsubishi 4WD when it crashed on State Highway 1 near Tuamarina about 6.30am.
She and a 21-year-old man who was in the passenger seat when the vehicle crashed were both out of the car when police arrived.
Fatigue appeared to be the major cause of the crash, Mr Munro said.
The woman had pulled off SH1 to rest when it appeared she lost control of the 4WD and went off the road, landing upside down in a drainage ditch, he said.
St John Marlborough territory manager Murray Neal said both the woman and the man had minor injuries and were taken to Wairau Hospital in Blenheim to be looked over.
They had suffered neck pain after the vehicle rolled over, he said.
