Fighting fit for charity
Four Blenheim volunteer firefighters plan on battling their way up 51 flights of stairs to raise money for charity.
For Kim Holmes and Ashley Toms, it will be their second attempt at the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge in Auckland on May 17. Miss Holmes won her category the first time.
Fellow volunteers Tony Nolan and Drew de Cartier-McCarthy will be tackling the challenge for the first time.
More than 700 firefighters from around the country will take part in the challenge, which raises money for Leukemia Blood Cancer (LBC) New Zealand. Last year it raised more than $480,000.
The Marlborough team have been training by running up and down the stairs in the Alfred St car park building twice a week and making the trek up Mt Vernon once a week.
They were at the Artisan Market in Blenheim on Saturday, where they raised $1500.
