Police believe the four separate fires in Picton this morning were deliberately lit.

Picton fire brigade were called to four fires at separate addresses in the same area at about 3am.

A police spokesperson said the callouts were to three boats and one camper van. Two of the boats have been extensively damaged and one has suffered moderate damage.

One of the fires scorched the side of a house and caused windows to break, the spokesperson said.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the Wairau Road area about 3am this morning and anyone who may have information relevant to this investigation.

Picton chief fire officer Wayne Wytenburg said he had to call Blenheim fire brigade to assist them with the callouts.

He could not comment on whether the fires were related.

Police and fire safety were investigating the cause of the fires, he said
