Security tight at court
A portable walk-through scanner was yesterday set up in the Blenheim District Court, when at least 10 people appeared for case-review hearings on drug-related charges.
The security system was issued to the court earlier this year, to be used occasionally to scan people for dangerous metal items. Although it was based in Blenheim, the scanner was only to be used on days when the security risk was considered high enough, based on intelligence information.
Risk assessments were based on intelligence, regarding cases that might involve a potential threat to people visiting or working in the courthouse.
