Forestry worker injured

A 31-year-old forestry worker from Blenheim suffered shoulder and head injuries while felling trees in the Wairau Valley yesterday.

The accident happened in the Leatham Valley, near Lake Argyle, and the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter responded about 2.45pm.

The man was assessed and treated at the scene by the helicopter's onboard Intensive Care Paramedic, before being flown to Wairau Hospital in Blenheim for further treatment.

The helicopter was involved in three missions yesterday.

It was first dispatched to Golden Bay Medical Centre for a medical retrieval back to Nelson Hospital about 9.20am.

Immediately following that, at 10am, the helicopter was dispatched to Perry Saddle Hut on the Heaphy Track in Kahurangi National Park to airlift a 55-year-old Auckland woman who hurt her ankle.

She was assessed by an onboard intensive care paramedic before being flown to Nelson Hospital for further medical treatment.
