Police, firefighters and St John Ambulance personnel were called to a house in Brooklyn Dr in Redwoodtown, Blenheim, about 10.30am.
St John Ambulance Picton station manager Tony Cronin said ambulance crews responded to a medical incident but would not comment further.
Blenheim deputy fire officer Dion Partridge said firefighters were called to assist ambulance crew.
Police said an 83-year-old man had died at the address.
The matter has been referred to the coroner.
