Royal jersey: Jo Tucker and Ian Jordan and jersey cow Sarina wait to welcome the royal couple as they left Base Woodbourne yesterday

A jersey cow named Sarina sporting a union jack cloak gave Prince William a laugh as the royal couple stopped to turn onto State Highway 6 towards Blenheim.

The couple had to stop at the intersection as they left Base Woodbourne, and right across the road was Sarina's paddock.

Her owner Ian Jordan was very excited they got to see the royals pass by, but even happier that William was seen to chuckle at the sight of Sarina's outfit.

"Sarina is the New Zealand Jersey Cow South Island Champion and a beautiful cow with a really nice nature," he said.

Jo Tucker was leading Sarina along the fence for everyone to say hello and have their photos taken with her. "She seems to like wearing the flag, she pulled it off to look at once or twice, but now just leaves it on her back.

"Everyone has loved her and she seemed to enjoy all the attention," she said.
