College principals finally have a date for a meeting with Education Ministry officials to discuss the next step in the future of Blenheim's secondary schools.

Ministry head of sector enablement and support Katrina Casey said on Friday the meeting was planned for Wednesday in Nelson.

"Ministry staff in Nelson will meet with Marlborough Boys' and Marlborough Girls' representatives on the day and together determine how to proceed."

The much-anticipated meeting comes after more than 300 submissions from the Marlborough community were compiled in a report presented to the ministry in a response to a proposal to change the way secondary schooling is delivered in Blenheim.

Buildings at both Marlborough Boys' College and Marlborough Girls' College require earthquake repairs and some are leaky and old, so the ministry is looking at various options.

Combining the colleges on one site and/or introducing a co-educational option are among the proposals up for discussion.
