Kaikoura police are also on the lookout for a car thief after four cars have been broken into, three of which were targeted on Thursday night at various locations around the town.

The car windows have been smashed with a rock and property stolen.

The diver of a car which crashed and rolled into stock yards on Scarborough St on Friday evening at 6pm could be facing charges.

Constable Lindsay Tilbury said speed was a factor in the crash after the car left the road near the top of the straight. Two of the three occupants suffered minor injuries.

The driver, a local man, was processed for drink driving although no charges have yet been laid.

On Sunday afternoon on State Highway 1 south of Kaikoura, drunken youths in a van heading south threw a can at a car travelling in the opposite direction.

A 24 year old Kaikoura woman has reported an accident to police in which the barrier at the top of Killarney St was damaged. Police say the woman looks to have a reasonable excuse for the accident, there were no injuries and it did not appear that alcohol was a factor. The woman is paying for the damage.
