Fyffe House's increasingly popular Music on the Lawn afternoon is looking as if it will be even bigger this year than last, with a wide range of local artists already lined up.

4 Sure, Midge McCleary, Nigel Finlay and Sarah Wright will all perform. Christchurch band Soulsystem, who have been synonymous with Kaikoura since their debut EP release last year and have a good following here, will also be there.

The event will be on Saturday, January 16, from 4pm to 9pm. It will be a family-orientated day, with an entry fee of $5 for adults and free for children. Families are encouraged to bring their own food, set up on the lawn and relax to the local sounds in one of the most beautiful and historic settings in Kaikoura.

Organisers, Ann McCaw from Fyffe House and 4 Sure singer Scott Bowater, say they are aiming to create a true Kaikoura festival, supporting local musicians and artists and they welcome any community group which is interested in being involved to come forward.

"This is not just a festival in Kaikoura but a Kaikoura festival which supports Kaikoura musicians and artists," says Mr Bowater.

They would also like to include a cultural element in order to involve all aspects of the diverse and talented community.

"Lots of artists come to Kaikoura to write and record," he says.

"It's got a really artistic vibe. There's lots going on and people maybe don't realise what's on their own doorstep. We want to really encourage that environment – there is huge talent in Kaikoura."

He also hoped young people would come along and be inspired to get involved in their own art and music.

The day will serve as a fundraiser for Fyffe House and any volunteers or community groups can contact Ms McCaw on 319 5835 for more details or to offer assistance.
