Christmas Food Bank Challenge organiser Nicky Mayne says the feedback and support so far for this year's food bank appeal is a great sign that the day will be a huge success.

Proceeds from the day will benefit many in need around the community, not only over the festive period but for some time to come.

Whale Watch Kaikoura and the Kaikoura Community Trust are covering all the meat costs for the Christmas and New Year food baskets. Whale Watch is also sponsoring the movie at the Mayfair which will be shown on the evening of the Food Bank Challenge day as part of its ongoing commitment to the community.

Southern Paua is putting in $500 and encouraging other Kaikoura businesses to support the event, and The Fairways at Ocean Ridge is putting in $500 and challenging business group EnVision members to do the same.

The Revamped Trash Fashion Exhibition and Gallery will put up a pool for people to throw coins into, Barnardos is putting up a Christmas tree and inviting food donations for underneath, New World has provided $300 food vouchers and Harcourts is providing items for a raffle on the day.

Ms Mayne is still hoping to get more volunteers to sell the raffle tickets, and any other businesses or individual sponsors, big or small, can contact her at Maynestream Technology, 319 7353, or on 027 481 3287.

Drop off points for food items between now and the event, which is on December 5, are New World, Hines Takeaway and the Kaikoura Star office.
