Fyffe House's annual music on the lawn event, on January 16, was testament to the stamina and determination of musicians and music lovers as they battled miserable conditions to put on a great day.
Originally destined for a sunny afternoon at Fyffe House, the weather change put paid to a summer concert. With a great line up of local artists, the steadfast crowd gathered at the Memorial Hall with blankets and hats to enjoy the day no matter what.
Lesley Baxter entertained with his smooth and cruisy tunes for the first time in public, followed by accomplished pianist Ailsa Howard, joined by her daughter, Jewellia, on guitar and vocals. Other local talent included Les Hoerara with his rich, deep vocals, Nigel Findlay with mellow country numbers, and Midge McLeary who teamed up with Scott Bowater and 4Sure for their rocking bluesy set.
Stone Jug gave a great blues performance before the heavens opened, leaving just enough time for Soulsystem to manage three songs until rain finally stopped play for the day.
More than 100 people turned out for the event. Organiser Ann McCaw said with that in mind, she had met the artists to organise a re-run of the event, for Saturday February 13, postponed to the following Saturday if necessary.
