The children of St Joseph's School have been learning about Lent and giving alms to others less fortunate.

In a bid to practise what they have learned, they held a mufti day last week to raise money for the people of Haiti.

Each student had to dress up in international costume and donate some of their pocket money to the cause.

A colourful day was had, with a lunchtime parade, and they all went into a draw to win a fishing rod, donated by Father Eric.

The total amount raised was the most the small school of 86 has ever achieved, at $245.40.
