A new hall of honours is being established at Kaikoura High School and the initiators are looking for help to identify previous achievers.

The idea is to honour high achievers who have gained university degrees or have represented New Zealand either in sports or in a cultural capacity.

The school intends to make an honours board for display in a prominent place such as the school foyer. The board will honour past students as well as encourage present students to set goals and work hard to achieve them.

Organiser John Gibson says the school has produced a large number of academics as well as top sporing achievers since it opened in 1971 and he feels it is important to honour their contribution both to the school and to the wider community.

The school needs names of students (since 1971) who have gained degrees, as well as the date they graduated and the university they studied at to gain their highest degree.

For those with sporting achievements, the school needs the student's name, the sport and the year they represented New Zealand.

It is hoped that the board will be installed before the end of the year, so entries should be in by the end of March wherever possible. Names which have not been received by that date can be added later, however the school hopes to have the board as complete as possible when it is first installed.

A ceremony will be held, with hopefully some of the past students who are available, when the board is presented to the school and installed.

The honours board is open to all past students provided they have spent one full year of their schooling at Kaikoura High School, including anyone who attended in Years 7 and 8 (Form 1 and 2), before furthering their education at another secondary school.

The school would very much appreciate the help of parents, grandparents, the community and friends to get this project off the ground.
