The Trees for Travellers (T4T) programme has bought new equipment, reinvigorated its website and has included a range of new services.
Manager Kevin Cole says he has been working hard to update the website at treesfortravellers.co.nz. It now includes more information about the programme, such as current news, upcoming events and volunteer information.
The revised design means customers and volunteers can stay informed about upcoming plantings and can easily buy trees online.
"It's taken six months to develop the new website, whilst planting nearly a thousand trees and caring for the thousands already in the ground," Mr Cole said.
Over the past few months T4T has made improvements to the programme, including a range of new products such as plaques for memorial trees, certificates of planting and a self-planting service.
The not-for-profit T4T charity was established in 2003 and operates under the umbrella of Innovative Waste Kaikoura.
So far, the programme has been responsible for planting nearly 4000 native trees within specially set-aside land reserves. Sites include Tom's track (1000 trees planted), Aranehu cemetery track (700 trees planted) and the South Bay coastal walking track (2000 planted).
"Some of the earliest trees are already taller than me, and others are well on their way," said Mr Cole.
Tourists and locals are encouraged to purchase trees to compensate for the carbon footprint they create while travelling to and around New Zealand. To support the programme, volunteer or purchase a tree contact Trees for Travellers on 033197148 or via the new website at treesfortravellers.co.nz.
