On each Canterbury show weekend the campers between KeiKei and Oaro hold a fishing competition, this year was the seventh such event.

Some 109 people entered, however, not all were fishers.

A great day was enjoyed, with perfect weather conditions - little wind and flat seas. Prizes and trophy were awarded at the Goose Bay camping ground and a potluck dinner and party followed.

This year the trophy was won by Samuel Crawford, of Brooklands.

The Kaikoura Coastguard brought their boat down to Boat Harbour giving trips to the campers for a gold coin donation raising $675 for the Coastguard.

Organiser Les Heaphy thanks the businesses in Kaikoura for their very generous support and donations of prizes.
