The Kaikoura Community Christmas Carol Service was held on Sunday evening at the Sacred Heart Church.

There was a good turnout of about 120 people, of all ages, and the choir was made up of keen singers from all the local churches.

On the organ was Mary Clare Hampton, of Sacred Heart, and on keyboard Rev Owen Haring from St Peter's Anglican Church. A small group of senior pupils from St Joseph's School sang A Child of the Poor, which brought a tear to the eye.

Scriptures were read by the young and the not so young. Everyone enjoyed singing the carols and listening to Rev Owen and a group of children talking about the crib and what it meant.

The service ended with a blessing from Father Eric Urlich, parish priest of Sacred Heart.
