Hi Kaikoura,

As Tony is on a well deserved break I have the privilege of doing this week's Cops Corner.

In the last two weeks we have had some unpredictable weather and as a result road conditions have been treacherous. Be aware when driving, especially when on the coastal roads, as you never know what you will find around the next corner.

Water rescues have also increased in the past few weeks, mainly due to faulty gear and people going out in rough conditions. Thankfully those involved were wearing life jackets. Please ensure outboards are serviced and in good running order, and the conditions are checked before going out. It is also wise to have at least one form of communication on board.

On Sunday I was called to two females shoplifting.

I located them walking towards their vehicle on the West End. When I approached them on foot they locked themselves inside the vehicle and took off.

Thanks to the members of the public who gave me information as to where the vehicle was hiding, as a result the driver of the vehicle was apprehended and about $4000 worth of stolen items was recovered which had been taken from five local businesses. Just goes to show that in a small tight-knit community they can run but they can't hide.

Until next time, keep safe.
