Organisers of this year's Kaikoura A&P Show were hoping for fine weather on Saturday, and they were not disappointed with the mercury soaring well into the 30s.

The theme of this year's show was animal antics, and there was plenty of that, from the more formal horse and pony showing and stock and station events to start the day, to duck herding displays and sheep-riding for the children.

Llamas and piglets kept the younger children amused, while for the older crowd, who could look past the annual hard man hard woman event, which saw teams from Amuri and Kaikoura battle it out with the obligatory tug-o-war, hare-tossing and other feats of strength.

A&P Association president Debbie Collins said it had been a great day from the organisers' point of view, with numbers through the gate pointing to one of the biggest crowds ever.
