Prime Minister John Key has floated the possibility of having a referendum to change New Zealand's flag - but what would we change it to?

And do we even need a fresh flag in the first place?

Our flag debate has raged for many years and a number of different options put forward.

Key's personal preference is for a silver fern on a black background.

Former Prime Minister Helen Clark favours a version which keeps the Southern Cross but removes the Union Jack.

What would you like to see flying for our country? And why?

Do you agree with Mana leader Hone Harawira that the Tino Rangatiratanga flag better represents our nation or do you have an idea for something completely new?

Tell us what the New Zealand flag means to you.  Leave a message below or email us news@mex.co.nz
