It's a shame we don't see more talented performers out busking in Marlborough.
We see the talent on stage, but not that many of them get into busking in town.
We were in Nelson on Saturday, where in the space of about 200 metres there were half a dozen performers - a guitarist, a young female singer, an amazing young violinist, a street-wise singing duo, a teenage brass duo and a pair of karaoke kids. The talent varied but was generally high.
Their performances added to the busy atmosphere of the place. People were going about their Saturday morning shopping, having coffee or just strolling, but most of them acknowledged the buskers in some way - they dropped a coin, or paused briefly, they nodded or they just came away with a smile.
The buskers will have finished with between $5 and $200, and they deserved that for what they added to the town.
How do we encourage more buskers to get out here to brighten our weekends?
