Regarding the comment on the Marlborough Express website and Facebook, the Masonic Hotel in Blenheim was owned and run by Alf Baily and his wife Connie in the 1950s and 1960s.
After selling to Bert Ruffell, Alf bought and ran His Lordship's Hotel in Christchurch.
He also owned race horses, the best of which was called His Bestone. Alf was also a judge at racing and trotting meetings in Blenheim and Nelson.
The snooker parlour was opposite the hotel, upstairs above what was then Hannah's shoe store. The parlour was run by Roy Ewart. After it was sold, Roy ran a taxi service in town.
