Making a splash: Kayakers competing in Saturday's Spokesman Avanti Plus multisport even race over the 6-kilometre Anakiwa course.
A real rush: The Maruia Falls, near Murchison, were created by a large earthquake in 1929 which redirected the river over the edge of one of its old channels. The falls are now a popular place for thrill-seeing kayakers who paddle their craft over them.
Tidal tyres: Old tyres at low tide make a surprisingly pleasant foreground in this photo taken at the Wairau Bar on a sunny Marlborough morning.
Magnificent sky: Power pylons appear to step over the hills as they are outlined against a red evening sky near Hammerichs Rd, Blenheim
Large circles seen from the air are 305 hectares of rape ( a crop grown for seed of which they extract oil).
The yellow and green circles are irrigated with a very large centre pivot.
This is part of the old "Bankhouse " farm in the lower Waihopai valley.
Bee heaven: Large circles seen from the air above Waihopai Valley includes 305 hectares of oilseed rape. The crop is being grown by Biodiesel New Zealand and will be used to make biofuel. A very large centre pivot irrigates the yellow oilseed and a 305 hectare green circle of barley. Biodiesel have leased the land, at Bankhouse Station in the lower Waihopai Valley, from Winegrowers of Ara. Busy honey apiarists have moved 300 hives to the site for pollination. Apiarists Peter Bush and Don Freeth can be seen adding boxes to the hives to store.
