There is no excuse for Marlborough's rural women to miss out on the Rural Women New Zealand (RWNZ) Enterprising Rural Women Award 2010, after a disappointing turnout from the region in 2009, says national vice-president Liz Evans.
Mrs Evans said only two women from the region entered the organisation's 2009 awards, and she hoped numbers would be bolstered significantly when entries closed on February 17 next year. She said she knew of dozens of businesses that did not enter this year, including producers of boutique foods and woollen garments.
"Their business can get a national audience and national recognition."
The award is open to women who own or run a small business with fewer than 10 fulltime employees.
The enterprise must be based in a rural area and have been operating for two years or more.
Mrs Evans said entrants did not have to be members of RWNZ.
In a change to the awards format, South Island and North Island winners will be announced before the national winner is decided.
Each will receive prize money of $1000, with a further $1000 going to the supreme winner.
Further information about the competition and entry forms are available on the RWNZ website ruralwomen.org.nz, or by phoning 044735524 or emailing enquiries@ruralwomen.org.nz.
