There are plenty of new faces in the Tasman Red Devils rugby squad named this week to take on the Tasman Griffins in the annual Cecil Shield match in Nelson on Monday, June 2.
Up front South African prop Ross Geldenhuys, Harlequins flanker Stephen Uren, Awatere loosies James Brown and Lui Finau, Moutere utility Mike Curry and Quins number eight Vaea Samasoni will be new to the red jersey.
Behind the scrum first-five Brandyn Laursen, his Harlequins club mate Connor Hirini, plus Awatere fliers Ben Finau, Manasa Nayagi and Maleli Bula enter the representative fray. Waitohi midfielder Sanuacio Sakalia is something of a bolter but has been improving each outing for the unbeaten Tohis since arriving from Auckland.
Makos-contracted players are eligible for the Cecil Shield squad, but a new combination will be named to contest the northern zone of the South Island championship later in the season.
