Marlborough clubs dominated the finals of the Golden Bay Fours tournament in Motueka on Sunday.
The Alec Macfarlane-skipped team of Kevin Wills, Tom Moore and lead John Whyte took out a closely-fought final against Ken Wells' team of Steven Grant, Ken Jones and Deidre Wells.
Another team from Marlborough, comprising the Witherlea duo of Maureen Bennett and Eric Percy and the Blenheim South pair of John and Judy Symington also made the playoffs, but were knocked out by Ken Wells' team in the semifinal.
Eighteen players from Marlborough competed at the Golden Bay tournament, which started with the pairs event on Saturday. The combinations of Macfarlane and Whyte and the Witherlea duo of Bennett and Percy met in the semifinal of the plate section, with the Witherlea pair prevailing. They met the highly-fancied Waimea duo of Mary Jordan and Linda Carrick in the final.
Despite leading until the final two ends, the Witherlea pair went down in the last end to some brilliant bowling by Jordan.
The focus now shifts to Simcox Stadium this weekend, where the McKendry Motors men's and ladies' pairs will take place on Saturday, with the L and E Daines triples event on Sunday.
