Marlborough volleyballers Alex Parker and Eloise van Velthooven were chosen to play for New Zealand after the trans-Tasman quadrangular tournament in Tauranga last week.

Three Marlborough Boys' College volleyballers, Toby Hogg, Harison Kilgour and Isaac van Velthooven, and four Marlborough Girls' College players, Olivia Nicholl, Parker, Jess Soper and van Velthooven, competed for the South Island secondary schools boys' and girls' teams respectively, with both sides finishing third in their grade.

MBC senior coach Nic Richards coached the South Island boys' team, and Deirdre van Velthooven was manager of the South Island girls' team.

The tournament included Queensland, New South Wales and North Island boys' and girls' teams. The tournament finale saw the selection of two New Zealand test teams to play their Australian counterparts.

The New Zealand girls lost 3-1 in a hard-fought match, while the New Zealand boys won 3-2.
