Grono shows his class to lead series
Dave Grono was first across the line in the second round of the Marlborough Fun Duathlon Series on Sunday.
Grono finished in the smart time of 41 minutes 34 seconds for the 2.3km run, 15km cycle and 2.3km run at Wither Hills Farm Park. He now leads the series with three races to go.
The first woman was Sanne Poulson in 50 minutes and 2 seconds.
Joseph Westend, 12, from Fairhall School, was the leading under-19 competitor, finishing a very creditable ninth overall.
The series is designed with beginners in mind and organiser Mark Grammer said a third of the competitors so far had never contested a duathlon event before. "Many are using it as preparation for the Jules Taylor Marlborough women's tri in November."
The next event is on Sunday, July 27. Full details can be found at duathlon.kiwi.nz.
