TITLE DEFENCE: Robert Cowlishaw returns a shot on his way to the 18 years boys' title during Sunday's junior residential tennis champs.

Robert Cowlishaw beat Jeremy Crouch to defend his 18 years boys' title at the Marlborough Tennis Association's junior residential championships on Sunday.

Playing at the Forrest Winery Marlborough Tennis Centre, Cowlishaw won in straight sets 6-2 6-4 to defend the title he won last year.

Peter Crampton continued a fine season, overcoming a large 14 years boys' field and comfortably beating Logan Murphy 6-0, 6-0 in the final.

In a tense consolation 14 years boys' competition, Max Bradfield-Watson beat Charlie Mercer 9-3 in the final.

However, both players needed three sets to win their semis, Bradfield-Watson beating Sean Nicolson 10-7 in the super tiebreak and Mercer topping Josh Watson 10-6.

Lee Harborne won the 12 years boys, unbeaten after three games in round-robin competition.

The 10 years boys was also played as a round robin with Nic Murray taking the title after a clean sweep of his three matches.

In the only girls' age group contested Lily O'Fagan dropped just three games on her way to the 12 years title. She beat Sarah Maxwell 6-2 6-0 in the final.

Phoebe Murray won the consolation title 6-4 6-4 over Jenny Argyle, while Marian Woodward beat Bridey Watson in the plate final.
